The 1974 graduates of the Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine are celebrating their 50th anniversary this year. Nineteen of the 82 graduates gathered for their class reunion earlier this summer in Parker, Colo., to reminisce, swap stories and enjoy time together. Dr. Griffiths is the father of Clinton Griffiths, anchor and editorial director for AgDay Television and editor of Farm Journal. Dr. Griffiths practiced for many years in southern New Mexico and currently manages his herd of beef cows at his ranch near Tucumcari, N.M.
Vanderwall Named Inaugural Dean
Dr. Dirk Vanderwall has been named the first dean of the Utah State University (USU) College of Veterinary Medicine. The appointment was announced by Laurens H. Smith, USU provost and chief academic officer, and went into effect July 1.
In 2023, Vanderwall was named the Utah Veterinary Medical Association’s Veterinarian of the Year. He was a vocal advocate for establishing the state’s only independent four-year veterinary medical program at USU, the Association said, in making the announcement.
Vanderwall holds a doctorate degree in animal physiology from the University of Idaho and a doctor of veterinary medicine and a bachelor’s degree in animal science from Cornell University.
Mizzou Welcomes Sreevatsan
Following a national search, the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine will welcome a new dean, Dr. Srinand “Sri” Sreevatsan, on Aug. 1.
Sreevatsan is currently the associate dean for research and graduate studies in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Michigan State University, where he also has served as professor and chair of pathobiology and diagnostic investigation.
He previously spent seven years as the director of graduate studies for the veterinary medicine program at the University of Minnesota.
Connecticut Appoints Interim Leader
Dr. Erin Masur has been appointed the interim state veterinarian for Connecticut, according to Bryan Hurlburt, state agriculture commissioner.
Dr. Masur succeeds Dr. Jane Lewis who was appointed in 2021 and has departed for a position with United States Department of Agriculture.
The State Veterinarian directs the overall responsibility of the Animal Health Division, performing administrative, supervisory, financial, technical, and professional duties relative to functions of the agency. They educate the public on prevention, control, and eradication of contagious and infectious disease and the regulation of livestock programs within the state. In addition, the State Veterinarian leads and supervises a team of inspectors and other administrative support staff.
Dr. Masur will fulfill these duties while CT DoAg conducts their hiring search to appoint the next State Veterinarian.
Masur graduated from Ross University as a Doctor of veterinary Medicine. She owns a livestock practice in Bantam, offering traditional ambulatory medicine and surgery for food-producing species.
