The 2024 57th American Association of Bovine Practitioners (AABP) Annual Conference will be held September 12-14 in Columbus, Ohio, at the Greater Columbus Convention Center, with the theme of “Challenging the Norm”.

Registration is open at https://aabp.org/meeting/register.asp. Early registration ends August 1.

“Our Program Committee chose ‘Challenging the Norm’ as the theme for the 2024 AABP Annual Conference,” says AABP President-Elect and 2024 Program Chair Dr. Dave Sjeklocha. “The committee has worked hard to bring thought-provoking speakers that will inform and challenge us to consider the things we do and why we do them.”

“Continually challenging our knowledge allows us to continue to improve the services we provide to beef and dairy veterinarians to not only help improve the health, welfare and productivity of cattle but advocate for our clients who provide us with sustainable and nutritious beef and dairy products,” adds AABP Executive Director Dr. Fred Gingrich.

Keynote speaker Shawn Baker, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon, co-founder of Revero Health, world leading authority on treating disease with medical nutritional therapy, author, world champion athlete, international speaker, podcast host and consultant. His book, “The Carnivore Diet”, is an Amazon best-seller. Baker will speak on the benefits of animal-based diets. “Beef has been much maligned in recent years, albeit inappropriately,” Baker says. “My experience with now thousands of patients shows that not only is beef not harmful, but rather incredibly important for optimal health but also disease reversal.”

Scientific sessions at the conference will include cutting-edge information on beef and dairy bovine medicine and health, cattle welfare, practice management, clinical skills, preconference seminars, clinical forums, research summaries, practice tips, student sessions and more (see the schedule at https://aabp.org/meeting/conference.asp).

The American Association of Small Ruminant Practitioners will meet jointly with AABP. The conference will be submitted for RACE-approved continuing education. “This outstanding program committee has definitely carried out our theme with the goal of challenging each of us to look within,” notes Sjeklocha. “ If the challenge is accepted, I believe we will all benefit in our personal and professional lives.”

The conference’s preconference seminar schedule offers something for everyone. “Preconference seminars are an excellent opportunity to take a deep dive into a topic of interest to you,” says AABP Vice President and Preconference Seminar Chair Dr. Callie Willingham.

Attendees will have the chance to learn from distinguished instructors and to interact with many like-minded colleagues over the course of the seminars.

“We’ve also partnered with our allied industry organizations to offer Secure Beef Supply and FARM Animal Care Version 5 half-day seminars,” she adds. “New this year, we’re able to offer three off-site seminars utilizing resources at The Ohio State University and local dairy facilities. We hope you can find a preconference seminar that excites you.”

Seminars include basic and advanced dairy nutrition, dairy replacements, parlor performance, solids bedding, bovine immunology/vaccinology, Edwin Robertson Advanced ET, antimicrobial alternatives, dairy consulting opportunities, on-farm lung ultrasound, small ruminant urolithiasis surgery, FARM Version 5, Secure Beef Supply, dairy methane/mitigation strategies and the Food Animal Educators Symposium for academicians. See preconference seminar information at https://aabp.org/meeting/preconference.asp.

Other events include the student Quiz Bowl, student case presentations, research summaries, awards and scholarships, a Job Fair, the Amstutz live and silent scholarship auctions and more. Members and affiliated partners can donate and/or browse auction items at https://aabp.org/auction/.

This will be the 11th year for the 5K Stampede Fun Run sponsored by Boehringer Ingelheim, with proceeds benefitting the Amstutz Scholarship Fund. Conference attendees can sign up for the 5K when they register for the conference.

Family-friendly, the conference also offers a mother’s room and complimentary registration for childcare givers.
