A majority of Republicans, Democrats, and Independents support legislation mandating “lab-grown meat” labeling and other restrictions according to new polling released by the Center for the Environment and Welfare (CEW).
With Florida and Alabama having already passed laws banning the sale and manufacture of the product, and Iowa passing labeling restrictions and banning lab meat from school lunch programs, lab-grown meat is at the forefront of national conversation.
Senators Mike Rounds (R-SD) and Jon Tester (D-MT) have also introduced federal legislation to ban lab-grown meat from school cafeterias.
Poll highlights include:
• 58% of total respondents (62% Republican, 55% Independent, 56% Democrat) support legislation to restrict the sale of lab-grown meat
• 63% of total respondents (70% Republican, 61% Independent, 59% Democrat) oppose lab-grown meat in school lunch programs
• 75% of Republicans, 67% of Independents, and 60% of Democrats would not be willing to include lab-grown meat in their diet
