Boehringer Ingelheim and Tuskegee University announce an expanded partnership that aims to foster diversity in the veterinary field.
The Boehringer Ingelheim CARES Foundation has pledged $500,000 in scholarship funds to the Tuskegee University College of Veterinary Medicine. This commitment will provide a $25,000 annual scholarship to one incoming student each year, significantly reducing the financial burden that often hinders diverse students from pursuing a career in veterinary medicine, one of the least racially and ethnically diverse fields in the United States.
Tuskegee University is the only historically Black College or University in the United States offering a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. The College of Veterinary Medicine has educated more than 70 percent of the nation’s African American veterinarians and has been recognized as the most diverse of all colleges of veterinary medicine in the nation.
Boehringer Ingelheim has been a longtime partner of Tuskegee University and participated in several career fairs and events for students studying veterinary medicine. The company also sponsors elective education for undergraduate students studying animal health. This scholarship fund represents the latest in the organizations’ partnership.
