AABP Honors Dr. Bob Smith with Distinguished Service Award
In recognition of a career of service to veterinary medicine and the cattle industry, the American Association of Bovine Practitioners (AABP) presented Bob Smith, DVM, with the 2017 Distinguished Service Award. The presentation took place during the 50th annual AABP Conference in Omaha last week.
Smith, based in Stillwater, Oklahoma, is a veterinarian with Veterinary Research and Consulting Services, a seven-veterinarian practice group that provides service to feedlot clients in nine states. The practice overseas health care for feedlots that have a combined one-time capacity of more than 1 million cattle. For 25 years, he was on clinical faculty at Oklahoma State University, where he held the McCasland Chair in Beef Health and Production.
Smith has served as president of AABP, the Academy of Veterinary Consultants and the Western Veterinary Conference, and has edited both the Bovine Practitioner and the Veterinary Clinics of North America Food Animal Practice since 1999. He and his wife, Gerri, have four children and 10 grandchildren.
