The American Association of Bovine Practitioners (AABP) recognizes the future of bovine veterinary medicine depends upon young veterinarians becoming involved in their profession, assuming leadership roles and building upon the successes of previous generations. Toward those goals, the AABP Board of Directors each year recognizes one young veterinarian with the James A. Jarrett Award for Young Leaders.

This year’s honoree, Eric Behlke, DVM, PhD, is a partner with Feedlot Health Management Services, based in Okotoks, Alberta. AABP presented the award during the recent 2018 annual conference in Phoenix. The board selects honorees based on “Recognition of significant contributions to the current success and future viability of the AABP.

A Nebraska native, Behlke has become known for applying data toward practical management decisions in feedyard health management. During the AABP conference, Behlke offered a well-attended session on “Using evidence-based medicine approach for feedlot health management.”
