WVC Schedules Two Veterinary Technician Symposia

WVC will host two CE events targeted for veterinary technicians this summer. ( WVC )

WVC has opened registration for two Veterinary Technician Symposia (VTS), to be held June 25-27 and August 6-8, 2018, in Las Vegas at the world-renowned Oquendo Center. A sell-out event for the last three years, WVC will meet the demand for hands-on Veterinary Technician education with two events. The VTS in June will cover the topic areas of behavior, anesthesia and diagnostics. August topic areas are surgery, post-op pain management and rehabilitation.

June instructors include:

Debbie Martin, LVT, VTS is a licensed veterinary technician, veterinary technician specialist (behavior), Karen Pryor Academy certified training partner, Karen Pryor Academy faculty emeritus, and certified professional dog trainer-knowledge assessed, as well as the animal behavior technician for veterinary behavior consultations in Spicewood, Texas and co-owner of TEAM Education in animal behavior.

Monique Feyrecilde, BA, LVT, VTS is a licensed veterinary technician and veterinary technician specialist in behavior, and works full time in a small animal private practice.

Kimberly Spelts, CVT, VTS is owner of PEAK Veterinary Anesthesia Services, where she strives to advance anesthesia knowledge and standards of care through advanced training and case management. Spelts has vast experience in training in anesthesia and has lectured at many major conferences to technicians and veterinarians alike to further their knowledge of anesthesia and pain management.

August instructors include:

Rebecca Rose, AAS, CVT is an award-winning certified veterinary technician and has spent over 25 years within the veterinary community as a veterinary technician, practice manager and industry consultant.

Danielle Browning, LVMT, VTS (Surgery) is a senior veterinary technician who currently works with the Small Animal Surgery Services at the University of Tennessee Veterinary Medical Center. Browning has been employed at the University of Tennessee since September of 2000 and is the ward nurse for soft tissue surgery.

Stephen Cital, RVT, SRA, RLAT, VTS is executive director for the Academy of Laboratory Animal Veterinary Technicians and Nurses, holding a veterinary technician specialist credential in research anesthesia. Cital’s regular daytime position is most recently at Silicon Valley Veterinary Specialists, as well as a private contractor for several research organizations.

Tasha McNerney, VT, CVPP, VTS (Anesthesia) is an O.R./anesthesia technician at Rau Animal Hospital in Glenside, Pennsylvania, and has been working there for ten years. McNerney’s specialties include: sighthound, brachycephalic anesthesia, and pain management.

Melissa Conarton, LVT, CCRP, VTS (Physical Rehabilitation)-OC, CVPP is a licensed veterinary technician and veterinary technician specialist with focus in physical rehabilitation. Conarton is a founding member of the Academy of Physical Rehabilitation Veterinary Technicians (APRVT) and now holds the title of veterinary technician specialty in physical rehabilitation through the organizing committee of the APRVT.

Kristen Hagler, BS, RVT, CCRP, CVPP is a registered veterinary technician with training in veterinary physical rehabilitation. Hagler has completed coursework in canine massage therapy through the Caninology® massage therapy program in 2009, and in 2012 completed coursework to become a Certified Osteoarthritis Case Manager (COCM) through the University of Tennessee's canine rehabilitation program as well as being awarded a certified veterinary pain practitioner (CVPP) through the International Veterinary Association of Pain Management.

The Veterinary Technician Symposia are planned in partnership with the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (NAVTA) and are sponsored by Banfield. Additional instructors are expected to be announced shortly.

In addition to the WVC Annual Conference in March, WVC offers numerous year-round educational programs at the state-of-the-art Oquendo Center in Las Vegas. For 2018, WVC will host a Veterinary Technician Symposium, Women’s Veterinary Summit, Recent Graduate Symposium, Veterinary Business Leadership Summit, Destination CE in Costa Rica and On the Road courses in various cities across the U.S.
