Are bovine veterinarians really aging out? A recent poll by Bovine Veterinarian shows that 50% are 11 years or more from retirement. Here’s the breakdown: 

20 or more years: 39%
11 to 19 years: 11%
6 to 10 years: 13%
3 to 5 years: 13%
1 to 2 years: 13%
Less than a year from retirement: 6%
I’m retired: 1%
I never intend to retire: 6%

Of the 73,373 veterinarians in private clinical practice, the AVMA reports 1,386 food animal exclusive and 3,105 food animal predominant veterinarians, with an additional 4,182 mixed animal veterinarians and 5,096 species unspecified.
