Key Components of a Parasite Diagnostic Program

( Sponsored Content )

In this interview, USDA-ARS microbiologist Dr. Dante Zarlenga discusses important elements in parasite diagnostics.

Effective parasite treatment begins with identifying the problem. Merely having an infection does not define the problem.

All parasites are not the same. Some parasites may not need to be treated if they don’t harm the animal or contribute to poor weight gain or poor feed conversion. A simple test can guide farmers in a treatment direction that saves time and money.

Drug resistance is not as big of problem in the U.S. as it is elsewhere in the world. However, to get ahead of the curve, the USDA is working on tests to identify where drug resistance is located.
