FDA FDA approves FACTREL for estrous synchronization
In May, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced the approval of GONAbreed (gonadorelin acetate). This week, Daniel G. McChesney, PhD, director of the Office of Surveillance and Compliance at FDA’s Center for Veterinary Medicine issued a letter announcing the approval of a second gonadorelin (GnRH) product, FACTREL Injection (gonadorelin hydrochloride) from Zoetis Inc., for estrous synchronization in lactating dairy cows. Government moves closer to selling Plum Island
For sale: Island in Long Island Sound, 843 acres, beautiful scenery, convenient access to Long Island and New York City. Amenities include bio-secure laboratory buildings, army barracks, parade grounds, ferry landing and lighthouse. Seller: United States Government. That description could appear in federal government sale listings as Plum Island, home of the Plum Island Animal Disease Center (PIADC) since the 1950s, soon could become available to interested buyers according to news reports. Asian Tiger Mosquito Exotic mosquito adds to WNV risk
The Asian tiger mosquito, which has spread to at least 26 U.S. states, poses a risk for spreading West Nile virus (WNV) and other diseases, according to Sandra Fryhofer, MD, writing for Georgia Public Broadcasting. This mosquito species, Aedes albopictus, is an aggressive feeder that bites all day. Read More
