Claude E. Barton, DVM, who spent much of his career with the USDA combatting brucellosis in cattle around the world, passed away on May 14 at the age of 87.

According to an obituary in the Tennessean, Barton graduated from Auburn University in 1952. He then served in the U.S. Air Force until 1955, and in the Air Force Reserves and Air National Guard until 1988. As a USDA veterinarian, he traveled to more than 12 countries to conduct training for brucellosis eradication.

Barton retired in 1999 and lived with Barbara Ann Johnson Barton, his wife of 63 years, in Nashville, Tenn.
