Zinpro Corporation recently won a Dairy Herd Management Innovation Award for its Availa Plus product. The competition, now in its fourth year, recognizes innovative new products introduced to the dairy industry in the past year.

The ten honorees in this year’s contest were selected by a panel of dairy farmers, academia and agribusiness representatives. The panel judged 55 total entries, with each being evaluated based on originality in the marketplace and its value and usefulness to dairy farmers. Each product’s efficiency, functionality and technology was also taken into consideration.

Availa-Plus represents not only a new trace mineral product, but an entirely new approach to foot health management. It was developed specifically for use in cattle. Research has shown that feeding a specific DD Formula, that includes Availa-Plus as part of a well-fortified diet, offers a novel nutritional solution to help provide protection against digital dermatitis (commonly known as hairy heel warts).

Digital dermatitis produces painful lesions that can lead to lameness in cattle, and the impact on animal performance is costly and wide-reaching. Most notably, this includes decreased milk production and poor reproductive performance in dairy cattle.
