One of the pioneers of the bovine veterinarian industry has passed away. Raymond Ivie, DVM, of Follett, Texas, a charter member of the American Association of Bovine Practitioners, passed away at the age of 90 on Sept. 15.

Ivie graduated from Texas A&M University in College Station in 1945 with a doctorate in veterinary medicine. He married Orpha Fleming in 1945, and the couple made their home in Follett, where “Doc” owned and operated Panhandle Veterinary Clinic for 42 years. He established a partnership of veterinarians and clinics in Follett, Perryton, Spearman and Beaver, Okla.

After he retired, he was a consultant for Panhandle Vet Supply in Childress, a wholesale drug company he and other veterinarians in the Texas Panhandle established. He was a charter member and past president of the American Association of Bovine Practitioners and a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association. He also was selected as a distinguished alumni of the Department of Veterinary Medicine at Texas A&M University.
