The well-attended winter meeting of the Academy of Veterinary Consultants covered timely topics such as cattle welfare, antimicrobial resistance, BRD treatment, food safety, euthanasia, treating sick baby calves and more.
More than 250 members attended the meeting in Denver. Also discussed were plans for the AVC 2012 spring meeting April 12-14 in Washington, D.C.
Dr. Tim Richards, Kamuela, HI, was honored as AVC Consultant of the Year, sponsored by Pfizer Animal Health. Also, Drs. Jim Kennedy and Shelby Jones were recognized for becoming endowed members of the AVC.
Dr. Dan Goehl, Canton, Mo., was elected to become the next AVC vice president.
The AVC currently has 859 regular and student members. The organization represents beef cattle veterinarians and offers three scientific meetings a year.
