The University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) recently broke ground on its new Veterinary Diagnostic Center. Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica, Inc. (BIVI) contributed support for the state-of-the-art facility that will provide improved service to livestock producers and veterinarians throughout the region and the country. It is expected to open by the end of 2017.
Animal health companies have been complying with the provisions of ADUFA Section 105 since 2008 by providing annual antibiotic sales data for food producing animals to the Food and Drug Administration. Monday’s proposed regulation expands on those requirements.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration proposed a rule today that would require animal drug sponsors of all antimicrobials sold or distributed for use in food-producing animals to obtain estimates of sales by major food-producing species (cattle, swine, chickens and turkeys). The additional data would improve understanding of how antimicrobials are sold or distributed for use in major food-producing animals and help the FDA further target its efforts to ensure judicious use of medically important antimicrobials.
