Ranchers and other stakeholders will have a chance to learn about and discuss sustainable beef production, and gain first-hand experience in cattle and range management practices, during the first annual Ranch Sustainability Forum in Sheridan, Wyo. on May 12 through 14. Hosts for the forum include Sheridan College, Padlock Ranch, Wayne Fahsholtz’s AgWin Group, First Interstate Bank and the University of Wyoming.
Program planners intend the forum to provide informational resources and tools for ranch stakeholders that will help provide healthy and sustainable ranches in 2020 and beyond.
Bob Langert, McDonald’s vice president for corporate sustainability will deliver a keynote dinner address during the forum.
The program kicks off on May 12 with optional hands-on sessions. Rancher and stockmanship expert Whit Hibbard will lead a session on low-stress animal handling at Sheridan College, which will continue the next day. At the Padlock Ranch, Charlie Orchard, with Land EKG, will teach rangeland monitoring techniques to a limited group of 20. That session also will take place on the 12th and 13th, with a cost of $200, which is half the usual rate for the training.
