Canadian researchers pursue novel vaccines for Johne’s, bovine TB

Infectious diseases continue to be a leading cause of sickness and death in livestock and are of concern to human health due to their potential to be transferred to people. Vaccination is the most cost-effective means of preventing infectious disease in animals and humans, but its application to livestock is still limited, and the lack of effective vaccines contributes to the excessive use of antibiotics in animal health.

Laycraft elected to lead Global Roundtable for Sustainable Beef

Upon unanimous vote by the board of directors of the Global Roundtable for Sustainable Beef (GRSB), Dennis Laycraft, executive vice president of the Canadian Cattlemen’s Association, was elected as the 2016 president of the global organization. Also voted in to GRSB leadership positions were Carlos Saviani, World Wildlife Fund, elected as vice president, and Cameron Bruett, JBS, elected as an Executive Committee member-at-large.


Texas A&M receives grant to help implement results of livestock disease research

Texas A&M AgriLife Research announced that the Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences (CVM) and the Institute for Infectious Animal Diseases (IIAD), a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology Center of Excellence, have been awarded a $1.2 million contract (under contract number D15PC00280) by the DHS Science and Technology Directorate to develop and implement a nationwide scientific business development and management educational program.

Zoetis today announced the introduction of LUTALYSE®HighCon Injection (dinoprost tromethamine injection), a high-concentration formula of the proven LUTALYSE® Injection (dinoprost injection) approved for use in dairy and beef cattle.

The higher-concentration formula of LUTALYSE HighCon allows for a 2-mL dose. This provides more doses per bottle, thus fewer bottle changes, and a quicker, more-convenient administration.
