International BVDV/Pestivirus Symposium in October

Pestiviruses: Old Enemies, New Challenges" will be the theme of a joint meeting of the 6th U.S. Bovine Viral Diarrhea Virus (BVDV) Symposium and European Society of Veterinary Virology (ESVV) Pestivirus Symposium. The meeting will be held at the Sheraton Crown Center in Kansas City, Mo., October 14-15, 2014.

This is the first time that the U.S. BVDV group and the ESVV group will jointly meet. The objective of the symposium is to bring together scientists, animal health industry representatives, veterinary practitioners, educators, cattle producers and policy makers to discuss how the latest BVDV/pestivirus research findings can be used improve the health of beef and dairy cattle and control emerging disease problems.

The symposium will feature presentations by scientists working with pestiviruses including BVDV, classical swine fever virus, border disease viruses and emerging pestiviruses such as HoBi-like viruses and Bungowannah.  Following presentations by internationally recognized speakers, there will ample time for audience discussion. Topics include pestiviruses and the immune system, in utero infections, pestiviruses and genetic variability, species and subgenotypes, BVDV control programs, new hosts and new pestiviruses, pestivirus in wild ruminants, HoBi-like viruses, regulations on fetal bovine serum, Bungowannah, border disease and more. Abstracts and posters will also be featured at the conference.  

The Symposium will be held immediately prior to the 57th annual meeting of the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians (AAVLD)/118th annual meeting of the United States Animal Health Association (USAHA).
