USAHA elects 2014-2015 officers

The United States Animal Health Association (USAHA) recently installed its 2014-2015 officers at its 118th Annual Meeting, hosted in Kansas City in October, in conjunction with the Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians. The newly elected officers represent the executive committee for the organization, and oversee year-round operations.


Surefire methods to improve total-tract starch digestibility

There has been increased interest over the last few years in maximizing total-tract digestibility of starch from corn fed to dairy cows. This interest was primarily driven by the high price of corn over the last few years. Even with recent sharp decreases in corn prices, dairy producers and nutritionists still see value in improving total-tract starch digestibility as a tool to improve feed efficiency and potentially increase milk yield.


Leaders in animal health honored at USAHA

The United States Animal Health Association recognized a few industry leaders at its recent annual meeting in Kansas City. Awards were presented during its annual President's Dinner on October 19.

UC-Davis receives $100 million to fight pandemic disease

The United States Agency for International Development has awarded up to $100 million for the second phase of the PREDICT project based at the University of California, Davis, School of Veterinary Medicine. PREDICT is part of the Emerging Pandemic Threats, or EPT, program — an unprecedented international campaign to rapidly detect and respond to emerging viruses such as Ebola and SARS that move among people, wildlife, and livestock.
