The Dairy Cattle Reproduction Council is pleased to announce that 24 dairy herds were recognized for outstanding reproductive performance, with six herds being named Platinum Award winners in this year’s Reproduction Award Program. Awards were also given for Gold, Silver and Bronze winners.
“The 2016 Reproduction Awards Program represented an impressive number—and caliber—of dairy herds,” says Corey Geiger, managing editor of Hoard’s Dairyman and chair of the DCRC Awards Committee. In all, a record 128 herds were nominated from 18 U.S. states and Canadian provinces. “Their dedication to excellence is inspirational, and these herds are tremendous operations in every sense of the word.”
All 24 award-winning herds and their nominators were recognized during the 2016 DCRC Annual Meeting in Columbus, Ohio, November 10 – 11. A talk-show style roundtable discussion with platinum award winners capped off the program, with producers consistently noting that there are no shortcuts or secrets to success.
The Reproduction Awards Program has highlighted producers with remarkable abilities to achieve outstanding reproductive performance, and this year’s contest continues that tradition of excellence. More than 120 herds were nominated for this year’s contest and judges used strict performance criteria to rank the entries.
Not surprisingly, the six platinum award winners all emphasize quality, compliance, cow comfort, proper nutrition and consistency on their dairies. As a result, the farms consistently reach industry-leading 21-day pregnancy rates, as well as notable performance in virtually every other reproductive measure.
