The Dairy Cattle Reproduction Council (DCRC) is seeking nominations of dairy herds with exceptional reproductive performance for its 2017 Reproduction Awards program. The awards program was begun 11 years ago to recognize outstanding dairy operations for reproductive efficiency and well-implemented management procedures.
The program has grown tremendously since its inception. Last year 128 herds were nominated for the contest. The competition is stiff and judges use strict performance criteria to winnow down the entries to six winners in each category.
To participate in the program dairy farms must be nominated by professionals who serve the dairy industry, such as veterinarians, extension agents, A.I. and pharmaceutical company representatives, plant and co-op field staff, consultants and others.
Nominations will be accepted starting March 1, 2017. Nomination forms are due by April 30 and may be completed online or mailed to the following address:
1800 S. Oak St., Suite 100
Champaign, IL 61820
Judges review applications and select the top herds, who are then asked to provide additional information about their operation. This information helps program judges select Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze winners.
Award recipients will be honored at the 2017 DCRC annual meeting in Reno, Nevada, November 8 – 9, 2017.
