AABP/AVC hit the high desert 
The first ever joint meeting of the American Association of Bovine Practitioners (AABP) and the Academy of Veterinary Consultants (AVC) Aug. 19-21 in Albuquerque, N.M. was the largest since 2006.

AgriLabs Dr. Bruce Wren Continuing Education Grants 
Luke Schmid, DVM, Washington, Kan. and Conrad Spangler, DVM, Dalhart, Texas, were the first recipients of the Dr. Bruce Wren Continuing Education Grants sponsored by AgriLabs in association with the National Dairy Shrine

AABP Amstutz Scholars 
The Amstutz Scholarship Committee has awarded eight $7,500 scholarships to veterinary students in 2010.

Graduate Student Presentation Awards 
Clair Mindeyo, Ontario Veterinary College, won first place; Ruby Moser, Kansas State University, won second place: Ben Wileman, Kansas State University, won third place.

Student Recognition Awards 
Eight veterinary students were awarded $1,500.

AABP Foundation/Pfizer veterinary scholarship 
Pfizer Animal Health and the American Association of Bovine Practitioners Foundation awarded 29 veterinary medical students financial support at the 43rd annual AABP meeting.

AABP/AVC respond to FDA guidance
The American Association of Bovine Practitioners and the Academy of Veterinary Consultants welcome the opportunity to collaborate with the FDA-CVM on the principles identified in the draft guidance titled “The Judicious Use of Medically Important Antimicrobial Drugs in Food-Producing Animals.”

A combination of psychological and nutritional stressors associated with abrupt weaning significantly enhanced fatal BRD.

Ronald Ailsby, M.D., College of Medicine, University of Saskatchewan, says large animal veterinarians face acute and chronic repetitive-strain injuries daily to their upper extremities.
